Tips in Taking Care of Salon Supplies and Equipment

Now that we've got our salon up and running,we now have to learn the ways in taking care of the equipment and supplies. In the first place, without them, you wouldn't have a salon. Having clean, well-maintained equipment is an essential deed in keeping a salon up and running. As you may already know, there are a lot of things inside the salon, which is why you need these tips in order to keep them up and running, good to go and ready to serve clients.

Washington Barber Styling Chair
Styling Chairs. Styling chairs take a lot of flak. They are being sat on, dirtied by various liquids and hair by your customers. Keeping them clean and operational is a top priority for every salon owner. Styling chairs are covered in leather and different fabrics. First off, never let put the styling chair under direct exposure to sunlight as this may damage the leather by drying it, making the color fade out and cause it to crack. Keep it away from fans and air-conditioning as it causes the leather to dry up. After each session, be sure to clean it by wiping it with a dry or barely damp cloth. Wiping it with a wet fabric will clear out the oils present in the leather, making it prone to drying and damage. It is also recommended not to use rubbing alcohol. There are leather cleaners available in supermarkets for you to use. Have the hydraulics, screws and metalwork checked at least once a month to ensure the chair's safety. Always be reminded to do so since an unsafe chair may result into horrible consequences. Lastly, if you are able to cover the chair with some sort of non-absorbent material without hindering comfort and operationality, do so as it helps out in maintaining the aesthetics and keeping potential damage potential.

Hot Tool Flat Iron
Hair dryers and irons. Probably one of the most sought after salon supplies, hair dryers (or blowers) are prone to overheating when not well-maintained. Hair, dirt and other small things may weaken the airflow and make the dryer heat up pretty quickly. If this is so, clean it up immediately. Be sure to always buy a hair dryer that has removable grills; it makes the cleaning process easier the grills is always the part where material buildup happens. If there happens to be manufacturer instructions and guidelines on how to clean the whole thing, better follow it. Flat and curling irons are usually made from ceramic, carbon fiber and stainless steel. There might be burnt hair, dirt and other residue stuck in it. You don't need anything special to clean it, just use a cotton ball dampened by rubbing alcohol or water and rub the ironing surface gently. This takes out the grease. Once this process is done, wipe it with a damp cloth and top it off with a dry one.

manicure and Pedicure Kit
Manicure and Pedicure Kits. It is mandatory to have hospital grade sanitation in cleaning manicure and pedicure kits. Having unclean tools with most definitely result to unwanted complications that will negatively affect a client's health. Infection of the nails and other ailments may occur so it is necessary to have these materials cleaned. Using a quick wash of soap, water and rubbing alcohol won't do the trick, this requires hospital-approved sanitizers and disinfectants and sterilization. After every treatment, clean the metal tools with soap and water, dip them for at least 10 minutes in disinfectant and put them in a pot of boiling water for at least 20 minutes as this will surely kill off and bacteria or fungus that latched itself on the tools. Be reminded that if any porous material came into contact with an internal fluid that came from a client, dispose it immediately and never reuse it.

I really like the styling chairs in that photo. My sister is opening her own beauty salon, but she doesn't have very much equipment. For her birthday, my entire family is going to pitch in and buy her a set of chairs. She only needs about four or five. I think we will be able to afford something that nice. Thank you for the help.
